WIPO representatives to attend TLDCON 2020 conference

25.08.2020

This year’s agenda includes a section on domain dispute resolution

The agenda of the 13th International Conference for ccTLD Registries and Registrars of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe (TLDCON 2020) has a new section. A meeting on domain dispute resolution and enforcement of court decisions will begin at 1:30 pm on September 8, the second day of the conference.

Lawyers consider domain disputes difficult cases because the rights for a domain name are not directly regulated by any law, and when hearing these disputes the courts rely on laws regulating intellectual property and competition. However, domain disputes have other specific traits, too: special approaches to the examination of these cases as well as the execution of the court decisions. This will be the discussion topic for this section.

Speakers at the section will include Charlotte Spencer and Gonzalo Bleda from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Alexander Khristoforov (Christophoroff), a partner in Gowling WLG’s Moscow office, and Deputy Legal Director of the CCTLD Sergey Kopylov. The section will be moderated by Marina Rozhkova, Ph.D., President of IP CLUB and Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation.

TLDCON 2020 will be held online on September 7-8. It has been organized by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and supported by the Technical Center of Internet (general partner) and MSK-IX. This year, the conference will focus on the changes that have occurred in the industry during its transition to remote operation. Russian and international experts will share their experience and knowledge and will speak about developments in the domain world amid the COVID-19 pandemic and what should be done to keep the internet free, stable and secure.
